"Barretstown is a place of fun, a place of laughter, a place where illness is forgotten."

- Parents, Ireland

Being ill is never fun. Being a child and having a serious illness is certainly not fun for the child or their family.

By booking online at http://www.travel-ireland-hotels.com, you are helping children with cancer, blood disorders and other serious illnesses from Ireland and 21 other European countries come to a magical castle in Co. Kildare called Barretstown.

For every booking made from January 1st, Travel-Ireland-Hotels.com will donate €1 to the charity
, which is 96% funded by donations.

The children who come to Barretstown have spent a long time in hospital and have been denied ordinary childhood experiences such as making friends, developing independence and social skills. The children and their families come to Barretstown completely free of charge, with transport and medical care costs included.

That’s why Barretstown has to raise €4.5 million each year to help 1,500 children and family members have Serious Fun.

Barretstown’s challenging activity programmes, backed by medical specialists, are designed to help children deal with the emotional trauma of their illness. Hospitals take care of the physical effects of serious illness.Barretstown helps to heal the emotional scars.

The children, aged between 7 and 17 are encouraged to take part in activities including canoeing, drama, horse riding, music and even climbing a 40ft tower!
Through their successes they stop seeing themselves as sick kids and use their new-found confidence and skills to deal with the challenges of their everyday lives.
As their families, their hospital consultants and the children themselves testify, the result of a stay at Barretstown is increased self-esteem, improved self-image, greater tolerance, understanding and new coping skills to help them deal with the effects of their illness.

'I was recently at your camp and I had the time of my life. I could not think of a time where I had more fun. I met friends from all over the world and I miss them all. During my time there I realised that Barretstown is not there to let people have fun but it is there for changing peoples lives. And all I have to say is ‘it was brilliant and it also changed my life’.
